Candle With Love
We often think of candles as a kind of inanimate décor, akin to a lamp or a bookend. But the truth is they’re much more like houseplants: a little mysterious, ever-evolving, and in need of some regular TLC in order to live their best life. Here are a few candle maintenance tips to help all types of candles burn better, glow brighter, and keep your home as cozy as can be.
Light And Shine On
The very first time you burn a new candle, it’s important to let the wax melt until it reaches the vessel’s edges. (It’s likely to take a few hours, so save this for an evening in!) Otherwise, the wax will melt unevenly, often forming a tunnel in the center, which shortens the candle’s lifespan. However, we’ve adapted our bowl to allow for an “uneven” burn. So while we would love for the wax melt pool to reach the edge, if you don’t have time to let that happen and must out it don’t worry-it should still burn the majority of the wax in the vessel!
When you receive a Benjamin candle the wick is already trimmed to the height necessary for a great burn. Our wicks are not prone to mushrooming but if you do get a clump of wick after an outing you can clip it off with a scissors. It’s not necessary but it will keep you wax burnt-wick free. And that just looks tidier.
Make sure a burning candle is placed safely away from pets and children. And lastly keep a burning candle in sight at all times. At the end of the day it is an open flame, albeit a small one. But something can happen and safety is of the utmost importance.
